David Caputo is a graduate of Sachem High School (Class of ’96), where he played football for legendary coach Fred Fusaro and served as a captain of the varsity team, playing on the Suffolk County Championship team in 1995 and earning All-Long Island honors.
He continued his playing career as a defensive back at Cornell University, where he earned All-Ivy honors during his senior season and had the privilege of being coached by Bill Arnsparger (Defensive Coordinator of the 1972 Miami Dolphins); Raheem Morris (Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Pete Mangurian (Tampa Bay Buccaneers).
Coach Caputo returned to Sachem in 2003 to begin his career as a social studies teacher and baseball, track, and football coach. He served as Defensive Coordinator of the Sachem East varsity football team from 2005-2007. He joined the Sachem North varsity football staff in 2008 and was named the Defensive Coordinator in 2009.
Coach Caputo will be coaching the defensive backs in the first Upstate-Downstate Football Classic to be played at the Carrier Dome in the spring of 2010.
He lives in Lake Grove, New York with his wife, Jackie, and their two-year old son, Anthony.
